Grandpa's Great Escape
Grandpa's Great Escape is a children's book written by David Walliams and illustrated by Tony Ross. This was adapted for BBC One and premiered on New Year's Day 2018. It starred Tom Courtney, Jennifer Saunders as Miss Dandy, David Walliams as the Dad and some wonderful performances by younger actors.
The story is set in the 1980s and follows Grandpa – a World War II pilot whose memory loss reaches the point where his family can no longer look after him. Against his wishes he moves to an old people’s home called Twilight Towers, run by Miss Dandy. She is up to no good and so, with the help of his grandson Jack, an escape plan is hatched. His dying wish is to fly a Spitfire once more and again Jack helps to make this come true.
Anne composed the soundtrack to the television adaptation and says: "This was a wonderful opportunity to score an escape movie in the tradition of the great World War 2 film scores - albeit on a much more modest scale! I particularly liked the gravitas that Tom Courtney brought to the part of Grandpa which gave a chance of some real emotion in the music."
